There is a set of requirements that applies to each property based on the size of the lot, area, Zoning District, other zoning requirements like yard requirements, setback and height requirements and any other applicable requirements.

For example – if you have 40 feet rear yard and your rear yard requirement is 30 feet – then yes, most probably you can build an extension to your house there,

But it is always better to consult the Architect to get more detailed answer to this question.
